introducing several of my old buddies to you XD

Since it’s obvious that i cant possibly post ALL of my friends profiles and personality traits in here.. I have decided to choose the few that i got to meet up with while on my 2 week break.

  1. Kennytha: I’ve known her since the day she came in as a new student in our old school at 6th grade. It surprises me how fast we grew to know each other so much in just the next year. I became a regular class mate of hers for over 2 or even 3 years. Kenny has always been one of the most absolute humorous ones that I enjoy hanging out with. She gives off this carefree sort of feeling and aura along her, where I am capable of letting go of barriers around me, and be myself, both good and bad. But being along side with her lets people point out how cute and how irresistible it is to laugh along. Everyone calls her “gurita” (which is octopus) while I’m called “tupai” (chipmunk) for some reason. Before i moved schools to Melbourne, she asked me to give her something in place of reminding her of me before going. So I thought to myself, “what could I possible give her?..” then at the last period of the day, I figured what else other than doing what I love to do, which is to draw her an big cute Octopus all over her binder. So, that was exactly what I did, I drew her a big blue cartoon octopus with a permanent marker. What’s most surprising of all, is that that octopus still exists till this very day, and pretty well kept for an old binder. It’s pretty surprising and touching to see how she kept the simple things I made so well preserved (even though I saw through the lines/ curves she tried to redraw herself to try to make it the same as the original one).
  2. Raisa: A very old friend indeed. We are both in kinder garden together, even from the moment we were too young to each others faces. Our moms told us stories and pictures of what we were like when we’re only 5 year olds and how we always stood near or next to each other in old school photos (this was because our lines are organized in alphabetical order, my name began with a “P” while hers is an “R”). It was hilarious to see how much we’ve grown since then, or even matured. We were class mates in both year 2, 3, and 4. After that we had our separate ways at times. Its hard to explain the type of relationship and friendship me and Raisa both had. It was obvious we were young, and often a had a quarrel or two at school, but then again we are as tight as glue even if we each thought we had hatred for each other as deep as a bottomless pit. I often go around the damp school grounds to collect the large amount of snails sliming their way through the giant leaves at the back. It was an odd habit of mine that I told her about, where my Aunt would give me 10 American cents for each snail I catch at her strawberry field. At lunch time, we’d both sneak off to that area to catch some snails and put them in the bag. Even though i was young, I could well remember i collected at least over 100 snails in that bag. The funny thing about this story is that Raisa is not the type that likes to get her hands dirty, instead it was me doing all the catching and all she did was freak out behind me if I shoved a snail 20 cm from her face. Raisa is a big, tall, bossy, and well known for being quiet a ‘cheap skate’ at school. But thats what i find unique about her, for many of my friends haven’t been able to cooperate with her ways that easily and don’t really like it, but I find it as a fun and unique challenge, for she always has something interesting up her sleeves. We both sort of share quiet a same big amount of interests such as: Anime & manga, arts & crafts, classical music, and going crazy over asian boy bands <– ( well I did say ’sort of’).
  3. William: Lets just say, he’s not an easy guy to hang around with. There’s always a lot of tension going around, and sometimes awkward situations, but then again that’s the fun of it. The strangest jokes always come out of random moments, making every conversation interesting. I’ve known him since 5th grade or even before. He’s now in Shang Hai, and boy he’s grown BIG. like TALL.. it maks me sad just simply seeing him in real life, knowing the fact that i used to be the same height as him..
  4. Kevin: The funny, soft hearte dude. Known him since like 7th grade, we always do the same usual silly stuff in class that gets us in trouble for making such a racket :P He often beats me in staring contest though :( how annoying. coz he has a secret technique.. he usually takes off his glasses, and h has these massive goo goo eyes with uber long lashes.. and it never fails to make me laugh! blah…cheater.
  5. too many to tell… sorry :( but my hands are about to fall off if i continue

Last Post before going back to J-town

Well, there’s nohing much I can say, except that I’m sper excited to go back to Jakrta!

I’m just full on excited to be able to finally go back home, and take a break, have some fun, call up some old buddies, and much more. But sadly, due to several reasons and happenings, I don’t think it would be a “oh-so-relaxing” holiday that i thought i could have. Let me jot down some ’small’ points why:

1.) Its only a 2 week break, which make it very short.

2.) SURPRISINGLY, teachers have become more over enthusiastic in giving us lots and lots of holiday homework. (This is for our own benefits and education, but I still find it hard to accept)

3.) There is a 65% chance I won’t be able to meet up with my buddies, because majority of them had already began their holiday and went overseas. Again, this i also linked with only having such a short break.

Enough of me nagging and whining, because I still have some small, positive hope of finding ‘happiness’ when going back to Jakarta. Such as finally seeing my parents again after over a month, and even some old friends, even for the shortest period of time. Plus i can’t wait to see my pets: Mango, Kiwi, Sunkiss, Salsa, Uno, 3 turtles, Bonbon (monkey), and some fish~

(This post was meant to be published by the end of term 2, but I’ve only had the chance to do it now. Sorry for any inconvenience :D )

Understanding Subjects and Verbs

Racism in Australia

In Australia, racism is inextricably linked to the history of colonisation and migration.

The original inhabitants, Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people, were dispossessed of their land and were discriminated against by the first British and European settlers. For some Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders, the process of colonisation has been perceived as invasion. Racial discrimination has continued to influence the lives of Indigenous Australians in the two centuries following white settlement.

The migration of peoples from all parts of the world led to the increased cultural and linguistic diversity of the Australian population. Prejudice and discrimination have been directed towards many groups who arrived in Australia, in particular towards groups from language backgrounds other than English, despite the fact that many government migration schemes invited people to settle in Australia.

Until recent years, racist policies and practices were also embedded within Australian laws and institutions. The most telling examples of these were the removal of Aboriginal children from their families and the denial of full citizenship rights to Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people. Similarly, the White Australia policy aimed to restrict immigration by people from non-European backgrounds. Historically, rises in unemployment have often led to calls for immigration restrictions and in some cases led to the scapegoating of people who were seen to be different to members of the dominant culture. While legislation now exists to protect the rights of all citizens, there is a continuing legacy today from the effects of these racist practices.

Grammer 2: Bismarck, tense & mark endings

[----X----]: Battle of the Bismarck

The German battleship Bismarck is one of the most famous warships of the Second World War. The lead ship of her class and named after the 19th century German chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Bismarck displaced more than 50,000 tons fully loaded and was the largest warship then commissioned. Her chief claim to fame came from the Battle of the Denmark Strait in May 1941 _______ which the battlecruiser HMS Hood, flagship of the Home Fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, was sunk within several minutes. In response, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issued the order to “Sink the Bismarck”,[2] spurring a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy. Two days later, with safer waters almost in reach, Fleet Air Arm aircraft torpedoed Bismarck and jammed her rudder, allowing heavy British units to catch up with her. In the ensuing battle on the morning of 27 May 1941, Bismarck took heavy punishment for nearly three hours before sinking.

[----Y----]: How the ship came to be

Design of the ship started in the early 1930s, following on from Germany’s development of the Deutschland class cruisers and the Scharnhorst class “battlecruisers”. from the second French Dunkerque class battleship made undesignation necessary, and Bismarck’s displacement was increased to 41,700 tons. Officially, however, her tonnage got 35,000 tons to suggest parity with ships built within the limits of the Anglo-German Naval Agreement (1935) that allowed Germany to build up to five 35,000-ton battleships, the maximum displacement agreed by the major powers in the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922. Fully laden, Bismarck and her sister-ship Tirpitz would each displace more than 50,000 tons. The prototype of the proposed battleships envisaged under Plan Z, Bismarck’s keel was laid down at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg on 1 July 1936. She was launched on 14 February 1939 and commissioned 24 August 1940 with Kapitän zur See Ernst Lindemann in command.

[----Z----]: The Strength of the ship

This formidable ship, the largest warship then commissioned, was intended primarily as a commerce raider, having a broad beam for stability in the rough seas of the North Atlantic and fuel stores as large as those of battleships intended for operations in the Pacific Ocean. Still, with eight 15 inch main guns in four turrets, substantial welded-armour protection and designed for a top speed of not less than 29 knots (she actually achieved 30.1 knots (55.7 km/h) in trials in the calmer waters of the Baltic, a significant advantage over any comparable British battleship), Bismarck was capable of engaging any enemy battleship on reasonably equal terms. Her range of weaponry could easily decimate any convoy she encountered. The plan was for Bismarck to break out into the spacious waters of the North Atlantic, where she could refuel from German tankers and remain undetected by British and American aircraft, submarines and ships, while attacking the convoys.

Grammar 1: Film Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a 1993 drama film revolving around HIV/AIDS and homosexuality. It was written by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Jonathan Demme.

The movie tells a story of Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), a senior associate and the largest corporate law firm in Philadelphia. Beckett hides his homosexuality and his status as an AIDS patient from the other members of the law firm. On the day Beckett was assigned the firm’s newest and most important case, a partner in the firm notices a lesion on Beckett’s back head. Although Beckett attributes the lesion to a racquetball injury, it is actually due to Kaposi’s Sarcoma, a form of cancer marked with multiple tumors on the lymph nodes and skin.

Shortly thereafter, Beckett stays home from work for several days to try and find a way to hide the lesions. While at home, he finishes the paperwork on the case he has been assigned and then brings it to his office, leaving instructions for his assistants to file the paperwork the following day, which marks the end of the statute of limitations for the case. Later that morning he receives a call asking for the paperwork, as the paper copy cannot be found and there are no copies on the computer’s hard drive. The paperwork was finally discovered in an alternate location and is filed to the court on the last possible moment. The following day Beckett is fired by the firm’s partners.

Beckett believes that someone deliberately hid his paperwork to give the firm an excuse to fire him, and that the firing is actually as a result of his diagnosis with AIDS. He asks several attorneys to take his case, including personal injury lawyer Joe Miller (Denzel Washington). Miller is an admitted homophobe and knows little about Beckett’s disease. After declining to take the case, Miller immediately visits his doctor to find out if he could have contracted the disease. The doctor complained the methods of AIDS infection.

Unable to find a lawyer willing to represent him, Beckett is compelled to act as his own attorney. While researching a case at a law library, Miller sees Beckett at a nearby table. After a librarian announces that he had found a book on AIDS discrimination for Beckett, others in the library begin to first stare and then move away, and the librarian suggests Beckett attire to a private room. Disgusted by the other people’s behavior, Miller approaches Beckett, reviews the material Beckett has gathered, and takes the case.

As the case goes before the court, the partners of the firm take the stand, each claiming that Beckett was incompetent and that he deliberately tried to hide his condition. The defense repeatedly suggests that Beckett ha invited his illness through his homosexual acts and was therefore not a victim. In the course of testimony, it is revealed that the partner who had noticed Beckett’s lesions had previously worked with a woman who had contracted AIDS after a blood transfusion and so should have recognized the lesion as relating to AIDS. According to that partner, the woman was an innocent victim, unlike Beckett, and further qualified that he did not recognize Beckett’s lesions. To prove that the lesions would have been visible, Miller asks Beckett to unbutton his shirt while on the witness stand, revealing that his lesions were indeed visible and recognizable as such.

Beckett eventually collapses during his trial. During his hospitalization, the jury votes for his favor, awarding him back pay, damages for pain and sufferngand punitive damages. Miller visits the visibly failing Beckett in the hospital after the verdict and overcomes his fear enough to touch Beckett’s face. After Beckett’s family leaves the room, he tells his partner, Miguel (Antonio Banderas) that he is ready to die. The movie ends with a reception at Beckett’s home following the funeral, where many mourners, including Miller, view home movies of Beckett as a healthy child.

weekend – movie#1

a love for television is indeed deadly. For the past week, I’ve watched quiet some amount of movies, till the point that i begin to forget them one by one. But luckily, I still remember several of them in my head so that i can share with them with you :) . And in the end of this post, will be the my favorite movie of the week!

Indiana Jones – The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
—————————————

Who doesn’t love Indiana Jones? I would just have to say, this is one of the movies that I’ve been looking forward too for quiet some time. Even if it’s been so many years since the last Indiana Jones movie, it is still amazing to see Harrison Ford in action, despite that his last appearance was 19 years ago before his fourth debut. I’ve always been a big fan of the Indiana Jones past four films. And one of the best features of the new movie is that they still kept the originality of the old, the music, the flying plane over maps, the costume, and etc.

Freddy vs Jason
————-

This movie is obviously a horror movie, which I’m not really a big fan of. But out of curiousity, I still went on and gave it a try. Taking the fact that this is quiet an old horror film, it still had the capability of giving people a jump and several goose bumps beneath the skin. Simply putting it, it did show various of sadistic and fetish actions, which i found rather hilarious. It still had that spark or fright, no matter when this movie came out.

(A word of advice, watching it at a cold, late at night on foxtel, and rain was pouring down like crazy is not exactly the brightest idea.)

Naruto – Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
———————————

This  movie is based on a very popular manga and anime series called “Naruto”. It is about young training ninjas who encounters series of events and difficulties along their journey of growing up. They challenge many problems among their friends and their sad and disturbing pasts.

Naruto has always been an inspiration to many, and even myself. In my opinion, it is not just any mere cartoon that is to be watched and just enjoyed at, but it is popular for having the ability to catch people’s attention, regarding the friendships that develop within the movie. Sadly, the anime series is a definite winner compared to its movie though.

TOP RATED MOVIE WINNER –> INDIANA JONES – THE KINGDOM OF THE MYSTERY SKULL

interview with JIM CARREY

On saturday night, there was a special appearance from a very special someone at Wesley College. A comedian who has inspired many, the young and the old. Jim Carrey, a very talented and all orginial comedian did a 45 minute stage act. It was no surprise that the tickets were sold out at such a fast rate. I witnessed the cries of laughter roaming around the Cato Hall. We, writers of Purple Haze have been given the oppurtunity to get an interview with the infamous funny man.

True, you have a point. So, I’ll ask you some simple questions that you’d probably been asked millions of times.

First, what makes a comedian?
Second, what inspired you to follow this path way?
Third, what would be your next “big thing”?

J:
Wow, well there’s so much to say for all those questions. Hm, well first off being a comedian

persuasive SPEECH – “A change in the world”

HELLO:]!
Today I am going to give a speech about “THE WORLD”… Today I will ask you all a very important yet random question, would anyone of you want to change the world that we all live in today? For instance, each and every one of you are given the chance, on this very present day, to change and alter the world to your very own liking and interests. But the down side to this great  oppurtunity has a catch, for you can only change one thing in this world… Now here is the time where every single one of you must think deeply of what you want to be changed the most. I may inform you that this change does not have to be anything reasonable nor even logical!

You can even wish for pigs to fly~ It is entirely up to you and your decision…

Now all you do, is take a grab on that ‘change’ tightly in your mind and don’t let go. For now just keep it to yourself, and not blabber the whole thing out to the person next to you just yet.

Everyone has their own different points of views and persepctives in what they would like to change in “The  World”. It can even be good or bad… Some might wish for world peace, or for the world to stop global warming, and yet others want something totally different as to what they want to change . Even how I view “The World” could just be the total opposite of everyone else. Discovering the worlds of other people around us is something very hard to take a grasp on, for it is too vast to understand.

There are many different series of events that needs to be changed in order to make this world a better place, even if it means that the law would have to be altered. The world we live in today, especially in those that are in the under developed countries where corruption is simply depicted like a daily meal for everyday life. When it comes to corruption, in my opinion is a very big issue in the past and even till this day, it does not only mean that it affect our economical and environmental system, but it also means that there is unfair or as how we can say ‘dirty money’ being passed around. Corruption is also a sign that signals people, giving them the thought that the law is not neccesary as long as if you have something to compensate it for rather than facing the consequences.

CORRUPTION=
It is a WRONG thing to do.
It involves in LUST and GREED.
It is SINFUL to use BRIBERY.
It is UNETHICAL and ILLEGAL.
